Nike World Headquarters - Serena Williams Building
Penington Painting Company completed extensive painting and coating services for Nike’s largest building—a 1 million SF, LEED Platinum-certified facility serving as the hub for its Consumer Creation Teams. The scope included interior and exterior finishes across GWB substrates, exposed structural steel, specialty landscape elements, bridges, and parking garage wayfinding. With over 82,000 labor hours, the team managed numerous branded color schemes, applied floor sealers, and implemented strategic manpower scheduling to support 200,000 SF of lab space and Nike’s collaborative design environment.
The project faced production challenges due to numerous design modifications, complications from operating within protected wetlands and an active campus, and schedule compression caused by design-related delays and adjustments.
To address production challenges, the team anticipated issues early and staffed accordingly, enabling proactive communication and timely adaptation to design changes. For work near protected wetlands, a thorough review of bid documents and team training ensured compliance with environmental restrictions. To mitigate schedule compression, strong collaboration with trade partners, the General Contractor, and the Design Team fostered productive coordination and solutions-focused planning.
